Does the AI Act Ensure Trustworthiness?
As Europe prepares for the implementation of the AI Act, one of its central promises is to establish trustworthy AI. But can the regulation’s requirements on transparency and quality assurance truly deliver?
The talk examines a key objective of the AI Act -the establishment of trustworthiness - on the basis of two of its requirements: transparency and quality assurance. The specific ruled are presented and analyzed in terms of their significance and implementation, also with regard to compliance and technical procedures. A Q&A discussion will follow, moderated by Prof. Philipp Hacker.

Prof. Dr. Indra Spiecker gen. Döhmann, LL.M. (Georgetown Univ.)
Chair of Law of Digitalization and Director of the Institute for Digitalization, University of Cologne. She is a leading authority on information law, data protection, and technology regulation, with extensive research on algorithmic transparency, governance, and trust in digital systems. She regularly advises governments, NGOs, and industry on legal frameworks for emerging technologies and is a member of multiple national and international expert bodies on digital policy.
Prof. Dr. Philipp Hacker, LL.M. (Yale)
Chair for Law and Ethics of the Digital Society, European New School of Digital Studies. His research focuses on the intersection of law and technology, with particular expertise in explainable AI, algorithmic fairness, and consumer protection. He collaborates closely with computer scientists to address technical and legal challenges of AI governance.
